May is here and a lot is going on within the City of Versailles.  We recently have begun our Water chlorination program on a limited basis in an attempt to start flushing the rust and odors out of the water system in areas of our community.  We have been told by our City Engineering firm that results will be noticeable shortly although it will take approximately a year to completely flush the whole system.  We have awarded the water line replacement program to a firm out of Higginsville, Missouri, Earthworks Excavation & Associates, LLC.  The total cost of this bid award was almost $900,000.  We anticipate the beginning of the water line replacement project to start mid month and could take as long as one year to 18 months.  We also have had our Engineering Report on our new Waste Water Treatment plant approved by our funding people, United Sates Rural Development , and also Missouri Department of Natural Resources .  With DNR's approval, the City can now apply for a new construction permit, which will allow us to start the bidding process for that construction job.  The City hopes to be in the construction phase of the treatment plant by Spring of 2013.  The waste water crew and our engineering firm will be smoke testing this June thru August to determine where we have issues in our current lines.   The infrastructure of our town is essential to the growth of our City both residential as well as for future commerical growth and as well as what we currently have.

With Spring here and summer fast approaching, the City crew is busy with mowing and maintenance.  I encourage all our citizens and businesses to take care of their properties and if we all do our part we can showcase the beauty of our City.  If you have an issue or need involvment of our City's Public Works Department, call the City Shed at 573-378-0645.

We are proud that the City offers 24/7 police service and tell the officers when you see them out, how much you appreciate their presence, they would truly appreciate it.  If you need an officer, you can call the police department number at City Hall 573-378-4602.   If an emergency call 9-1-1  .

Our swimming pool will be opening up for free swimming on Saturday May 19th and officially opening for Memorial Weekend on Saturday, May 26th.  I encourage all our citizens and guests to enjoy the summer season with a season pass or even daily usage. We are proud of the 1 year old facility.  Our Park Board meets the second Monday at City Hall at 6:00pm.  Please attend if you have interest and or questions involving our Parks!

Our own City Council meetings are every second Tuesday of the month at City Hall promptly starting at 7:00 PM.  Our meetings are open to the public!

Dont forget our Mother's with Mother's Day just around the corner on Sunday, May 13th!

Sincerely,

Mayor Terry Silvey
