The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining infrastructure, which includes water towers, wells, wastewater plant, water lines, sewer lines, storm water spillway and streets.
Water testing is conducted regularly on both drinking water and wastewater. The City of Versailles currently has five of eight public work employees who are licensed in water and wastewater. Indebt training is required for licensed employees to renew their certification every three years. Employee certifications must be maintained to ensure Versailles always has qualified employees to gather samples and maintain state and federal regulations.
Public Works employees are required to repair water and sewer line breaks, maintain streets, read meters, flush hydrants, and many other jobs of maintenance including maintaining all city buildings.
Hydrants are scheduled to be flushed in April, July, and September and whenever deemed necessary.
During the mowing season, public works employees mow and maintain city right of ways and the airport. As a service to homeowners and businesses, the Public Works Department picks up yard waste starting the second Tuesday of each month as time permits.
Snow removal is a big part of the work in the winter along with spreading salt and sand to ensure traveling accessible on city streets.
