Police Department
The Versailles Police Department is located at 104
N. Fisher. There are 10 officers, all of whom have
completed the basic police course, at the Missouri
State Highway Patrol Law Enforcement Academy
in Jefferson City Missouri. The department has
6 patrol cars, and works 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week. For emergencies, you can call 911. For
non-emergencies, you can call 573-378-4634

Fire And Police Departments
Fire and Police emergencies can be reported by dialing 911. For non-emergencies, the police can
be contacted at 573-378-4634.
Fire Department
In 1895, the alderman of the City of Versailles passed an ordinance permitting the purchase of
ladders, fire buckets, hacks and chairs or ropes, and other appliances for the purpose of fighting
fires. They also appropriated monies for a proper truck to carry the equipment for fighting fires.
In Section 5 of the ordinance it reads Every owner or proprietor of any dwelling on business or other
public building within the city shall keep on the lot on which said buildings are situated a good
substantial ladder that will reach from the ground to the roof of the house or other buildings on said
premises and a short ladder on the roof to reach to the top or comb of the roof, when the roof is
slanted.
In Section 6 of said ordinance, it states that any person that are in violation of this ordinance shall be
deemed guilty of a violation thereof , and on conviction be punished by a fine of not less the $2.00 for
each offense.
The City Fire Department has come a long ways since the ordinance was first written. They are
volunteers and serve when their jobs allows.
There are 20 firefighters, 4 fire trucks that are housed in the firehouse at 202 W. Newton. They have
recently added a new addition to the firehouse for continuing education. Versailles Fire Department's
equipment and training have earned it a class 6 rating by the Insurance Service Organization.
